Functions What can the ePA do?
In the ePA you always have all your health data in one place. But how exactly does it work? Find out here what you can store and use in the ePA.
What data can be stored?
Doctors are obliged to enter all important data relating to your treatment in your electronic patient file (ePA) on request.
This obligation only applies if you have consented to the storage.
The relevant data includes
- Laboratory results
- diagnoses
- Doctor's letters
- therapeutic measures
- treatment reports
- Emergency data and the electronic medication plan
At the request of the insured person, additional data can be stored in the electronic patient record (ePA).
- Electronic certificates of incapacity for work (eAU)
- Data within the framework of the Disease Management Program (DMP)
- Data relating to nursing care and long-term care services
- Information regarding organ donation or advance healthcare directives

The most important functions of the electronic patient file:

You can authorise medical practices and clinics to access your health data. This allows them to work together better and treat you in the best possible way. You decide whether the entire file or only individual areas are accessible. Access can be limited or unlimited in time.
How to create a facility and manage authorisations:
- Go to "Patient file" in your profile and tap on the "Practices & facilities" icon.
- Tap on the plus symbol at the top right.
- Enter the name of your doctor in the search field and tap on "Search".
- Select the correct organisation from the list and tap on "Next".
- You will now see the "Authorisation settings" page.
- Would you like to give this organisation access? Then move the slider to the right.
- Now decide how long the access should apply (unlimited, 90 days or over a user-defined period)
- Then tap on "Document categories".
- Select which categories the organisation is allowed to access.
- You can change the access rights again at any time.

You can use the ePA app to enter representatives. For example, relatives or trusted persons. They can manage your health data and support you in important decisions. You can also represent other people yourself.
Would you like someone to represent you?
- Go to your patient file in your profile and tap on "Authorisations".
- Under 'People representing you', select the plus symbol to add a new representative.
- Then enter the name, email address and insurance number of the person representing you and tap "Add". This person also needs the mhplus ePA app and a user account.
Would you like to deputise for someone?
- Open the start page of the app, tap on your profile icon in the top right-hand corner and select "Set up a deputy".
- Then tap on "+ Representation" and enter the name, policyholder number and health insurance company of the person you wish to represent.

You can also securely store your own medical documents, such as medical reports or findings, in the ePA app. These can be shared with your doctors or other healthcare providers if required.
How to add a document:
- Open the "Documents" section in your patient file.
- Tap on the plus symbol at the bottom right to add a new document. You can either select an existing file or take a photo.
- Then select the source of the document. For example, from yourself, a practice or another location. You also select the type of document (e.g. photo, note or measured value). You also have the option of adding a comment.
- Finally, tap on "Add document".

You can download an overview of your medical treatments - a so-called benefits statement. This means you always have an overview of all the services you have received.
How to view your benefits information:
- Open the "Your mhplus" section in your patient file .
- There you can view your benefits information and download it if required.
- Alternatively, you can find the benefits information under Documents in the overview.

All uploaded data is available in the ePA app at any time. You can view, download and delete the information. Data uploaded by doctors can also be viewed and downloaded, but cannot be changed. This means you are always in control of your health data.
